Last year, budget cuts eliminated elementary classes in arts, music, library and physical education for Lansing School District students, and it was left up to the teachers to take over. Therefore, I was given the opportunity to teach these four crucial subjects to my students.
Physical Education
I taught lessons in soccer, basketball, fitness and baseball throughout the year. Students learned the correct ways to kick, throw, shoot, dribble, do push ups, etc. They also learned the rules and positions in the games. We did activities, drills, rotations and games to help learn these concepts.
Art
For art class, students were taught a mini lesson about a technique or famous artist and then would use that technique in a project. In the picture on the left, students learned about and created optical illusions, and on the right, students learned about texture, depth and warm and cool colors and the effect that these aspects have on a piece of art.
Music
In music, students sang, kept beats with songs, and learned about various instruments.
Library
In library, I was in charge of checking in and out books, making sure students didn't have overdue books, and shelving books.
