Mt. Hope Elementary is a 4-6 grade building, and the 5th and 6th grades offer several after-school activities, including basketball and girl's club. Fourth grade didn't have activities like these, so my mentor teacher, another 4th grade teacher and I started an after-school volleyball club for all of the fourth grade. We met twice a week after school for an hour.
Playing volleyball through middle and high school helped me to coach the students on technique and the rules of the game. We did warm ups, drills, games and played actual games of volleyball. Although I tore my ACL playing volleyball outside of this club, I continued to coach. By the end of the club, students made huge improvements.
